Open Parachute Program

At Yowie Bay Public School we offer the Open Parachute program. Designed to support student wellbeing and resilience this program aims to support  mental health and social-emotional learning (SEL) wellbeing.

Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) is a proactive framework aimed at promoting positive behaviour and creating a supportive school environment.  At Yowie Bay Public School, PBL is implemented through a systematic approach that includes defining clear behavioural expectations, teaching these expectations explicitly, and acknowledging positive behaviours through rewards and recognition. This includes the selection of students to receive a PBL award each week, as well as the implementation of our 'Gotcha' reward program, where students earn tokens to contribute to their class jars. These jars accumulate tokens that go towards end-of-term reward activities. Yowie Bay Public School has created a set of core values or principles that guide student behaviour- respect, responsibility, and safety. Regular training for staff ensures consistency in implementation, while ongoing monitoring and data collection help assess the effectiveness of the program. This collaborative effort encourages students to take ownership of their behaviour and fosters a positive school culture conducive to learning.

The PAX Good Behaviour Game is a structured, evidence-based program designed to promote positive behaviour and improve social skills among students in a whole-school setting. It is implemented by training teachers to integrate the game into their classrooms, where students work in teams to earn points for demonstrating appropriate behaviours and following class rules. The program emphasises collaboration and self-regulation, encouraging students to support one another in making positive choices. Benefits of the PAX Good Behaviour Game include reduced disruptive behaviour, improved academic performance, and enhanced social interactions, leading to a more positive and inclusive school environment. The PAX Good Behaviour Game fosters a culture of respect and cooperation, contributing to the overall wellbeing of students and creating a supportive atmosphere that enhances the entire school community.
