Personal development, health and physical education (PDHPE) is mandatory from Kindergarten to Year 10.
According to the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA), students are expected to participate in PDHPE for between 1.5 and 2.5 hours per week in Kindergarten to Year 6.
PDHPE provides students with opportunities to explore issues that are likely to impact on the health, safety and wellbeing of themselves and others – now and in the future. Students also participate in challenging and enjoyable physical activity, improving their capacity to move with skill and confidence.
Drug Education
At Yowie Bay Public School Drug Education is taught to all children each year. Drug Education is an important component of the Personal Development, Health and Physical Education (PDHPE).
Live Life Well Program
Yowie Bay Public School follows the philosophy of the Live Life Well program. This program aims to ensure children are active more often as well as focusing on healthy eating habits. Children participate in daily fitness lessons incorporating fundamental movement skills. Studies have shown that by being active, children maintain a healthy weight and develop strong bones and muscles. All children participate in Crunch and Sip which is a set classroom break to eat fruit and drink water. Fruit and vegetables should be cut up into small bite sized pieces.
Child Protection Education
Yowie Bay Public School children participate in Child Protection Education. Child Protection is mandatory and part of the Personal Development, Health and Physical Education Key Learning Area for NSW Primary Schools. The Child Protection lessons have been developed by the NSW Department of Education and are an important priority for schools. Child Protection lessons help children identify dangerous or uncomfortable situations and how to seek help from trustworthy adults.
